Undead Templates

The Construction of Undead:

In order to construct an Undead, a Necromancer must complete the following requirements:

  1. 1 dead body, or living willing character.
  2. 1 day per 10 Character Points in the undead to be created.
  3. Various materials equal to the cost given.
  4. One of:
    1. A spell to Summon that type of Undead.
    2. Succeed in a Necromancy power skill roll with a penalty equal to -1 per 10 Character Points in the undead.
Step 1 Details: Target

The Necromancer must either procure or have a dead body, or have a target character willing to become undead.

In either case, the target body or character becomes an undead of the given template(s) afterwards.

Step 2 Details: Time

The Necromancer spends 1 day per 10 Character Points in the Undead, regardless of source – Character points from the undeads’ species, for example, are included, as are Character Points from matching Complications.

This time is spent in scribing symbols, laying powders, incanting, gesturing and other such arcane preparations on and around the body.

No materials are used up at this stage; although they are all used at one point or another, they may all be recovered up until the start of Step 3.

Only eight hours a day are used up in these activities; the Necromancer may use the remainder of the day as they wish, so long as they do not disturb the preparations.

Step 3 Details: Materials

With all preparations complete, the materials are used up; sinking into the body/willing target; burning up in a flash; becoming swirling gases and being absorbed by the body/willing target; consumed in flashes of lightning and otherwise being used up.

Step 4 Details: Completion

At this point, if the character has a spell to summon that type of undead, they may complete the process by simply casting that spell. The spell has none of its normal effects (although it still has all of its usual costs, save for any rendered moot by the templating procedure) and the procedure is completed.

If they do not have such a spell, they may still make a Necromancy power skill roll with a penalty equal to -1 per 10 Character Points in the undead (including those from species, Complications and etc.). If they succeed at the roll, the procedure is complete. If they fail the roll, then all previous stages, including materials and time, are wasted.

Upon procedure completion, the template(s) involved are applied to the target body/character and the target becomes undead.
